Eric Broadbent sets PRs at High Point Vertklasse Meet

Mike Young, the guy we’re working with, he’s just really good at just setting up the base, making sure we’re strong and quick, and all of our work there is focusing on our core. It’s not easy. I’m usually close to passing out, but it’ll be good once the 80th minute comes around during the season.

Eric Broadbent sets PRs at High Point Vertklasse Meet

HPC Elite Team member and decathlete Eric Broadbent set multiple new personal records at the High Point Vertklasse meet in High Point, NC. Eric competed in the javelin, pole vault, 110m High Hurdles, and the 4x400m relay. In the javelin, Eric had 5 throws over his previous personal best with his best being 40.94 meters. In the 110m High Hurdles, Eric took off 0.09 seconds off his previous best by running 14.71 seconds. Both marks established his existing club records. He cleared 4.05 meters in the pole vault and teamed up to run on the winning 4x400m relay. Masters thrower Chris Garrett also competed and took third in the shot put with a best mark of 11.99 meters. This mark is currently ranked third in the country for his age group.

Babatunde Ridley jumps far at Triton Invite

HPC Elite Team member Babatunde Ridley opened his 2010 outdoor season with a mark of 7.35 meters in the long jump at the UCSD Triton Invitational in San Diego, CA. The mark was a great opener for the season and good for 3rd place in the competition.

HPC Elite member Joel Williams wins at International Friendship & Freedom Games

Several members of the HPC Elite team were in action at the International Friendship & Freedom Games in Greensboro, NC. Joel Williams won the 800 meters and placed 6th in the 400 meters with times of 1:51.83 and 48.25 seconds respectively. Tonya Osborne ran 59.93 seconds in the women's 400 meters.

Williams and Israel excel at Relay Carnivals

HPC Elite team members Karjuan Williams and Alie Israel had strong showings at the Mt SAC and Kansas Relays respectively. Karjuan placed 3rd in the men's invitational 800 meters at Mt SAC with a season best time of 1:47.14. Alie placed 7th in the 200m at the Kansas Relays with a seasonal best time of 24.16 seconds.


HPC Elite Team competes at UNC and UNC-Charlotte

The HPC Elite team was in action this past weekend. The middle distance group competed at UNC in Chapel Hill, NC and the speed-power group competed at UNC Charlotte. In the men's 800m, Joel Williams ran 1:51.01; Jeff Jackson ran 1:53.28; and Brandon Jones ran 1:53.55. In the women's 1500m Maria Medina ran 5:10.29. In Charlotte, Kelly Furr won the long jump, high jump, and 100 Hurdles with marks of 5.05m, 1.58m and 15.48 seconds. Eric Broadbent won the pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin and 200m with marks of 3.97m, 12.56m, 36.17m, 38.77m and 22.43 seconds.

HPC Elite members turn in winning performances at Duke Invite

Several members of the HPC Elite team were in action at the Duke Invite at Duke University in Durham, NC. Kelly Furr started things off with a winning performance in the women's pole vault. Her performance of 3.80 meters won the performance and broke her existing club record. Another win was turned in by Karjuan Williams in the 800 meter run. His time of 1:48.84 won the competition by almost 2 seconds. Joel Williams placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.71 seconds. This time broke Adrian Findlay's club record for the event. Decathlete Eric Broadbent turned in a personal best performance in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds and returned later in the day to run 50.56 seconds in the 400 meter run. Other notable performances were turned in by Brandon Jones and Jeff Jackson who ran 1:52.02 and 1:53.86 respectively in the 800 meters, Eric Speer who ran 49.99 in the 400 meters, and the team of Karjuan Williams, Brandon Jones, Jeff Jackson and Joel Williams who ran 3:17.40 seconds in the 4x400 meter relay despite dropping the baton.

HPC Elite member Alie Israel turns in strong 100m performance

HPC Elite Team member Alie Israel turned in a strong 100 meter performance in her first outing of the 2010 season at the distance. Her performance of 11.57 seconds at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, AL is just 0.04 off her personal best and HPC Elite club record.
